01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located in the charming seaside town of El Portil, Bar Metropol is a delightful restaurant and café that captures the essence of authentic Spanish tapas culture. This cozy yet vibrant spot is a true gem for anyone seeking a rich culinary experience in Huelva, Spain.

Bar Metropol’s menu offers an enticing array of traditional tapas that tease the palate and celebrate local flavors. Among the highlights are the tender albóndigas de carrillera—meatballs made from succulent pork cheeks—richly flavored and perfectly spiced, alongside the fresh and vibrant atun con tomate, where the ocean’s freshness melds seamlessly with a tangy tomato base. The ensaladilla de pulpo, a creamy octopus salad, adds a delightful texture and a touch of coastal authenticity to the spread. Each dish bursts with robust, authentic tastes, making it hard to stop at just one plate.

The atmosphere here is warm and inviting, enhanced by the friendly and attentive service that customers consistently praise. Whether you’re visiting on a crisp winter day or a sunny afternoon, Bar Metropol offers a relaxed setting where you can enjoy a casual tapas dinner, a morning café con leche, or a refreshing cervezas with friends. The covered outdoor seating area makes it a comfortable retreat regardless of the season, and animal lovers will appreciate the dog-friendly policy, allowing you to share your experience with your furry companions.

Visitors often comment on the affordability, noting that the quality and taste far exceed expectations for the price range. The lively yet relaxed vibe, combined with the accessibility and parking convenience, creates a perfect spot for locals and tourists alike to unwind and savor excellent food without fuss.

In essence, Bar Metropol is more than just a place to eat; it’s a meeting point where great food, genuine hospitality, and a genuine love for Spanish culinary traditions come together. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee and toast in the morning or settling in for an evening of diverse tapas and cheerful conversation, this restaurant promises to leave you with a satisfied palate and a warm heart.

Un buen lugar para comerte unas tapas y tomarte unas cervezas, incluso el primero de enero - con o sin perros porque igual puedes entrar cuando hace frío y pasarla bien! Great place to have a January 1st tapas dinner and drinks - with and without dogs because they let you enter either way!

The Metropol is currently on one of my daily walks and when possible I stop here. I especially like to stop on a morning for café leche manchada, tostado, mantequilla y marmalade.(for me, preferably strawberry) It's simple, but aren't all amazing things simple, it's very affordable, it's incredibly mind blowing tasty and it comes with a free class of water. Coffee often makes me feel thirsty and no other café or restaurant I've been to in the whole area of Portil has offered me this. One gets the idea that the owner may have spent time in America where it is often customary to provide fresh cold water the moment you sit down irrespective of what you're having. I love it, I love it, I love it. This is the first time I've given anywhere a 3 'Love it' score, but trust me it deserves it for it's simplicity, the taste of the food and (did I mention the service?), the service. Should you be a restaurant owner yourself visit this place for the perfect example of how to train your staff. These guys are; a) constantly attentive, looking round and checking out the tables (and there are a lot of tables). b) they listen attentively to your order and get it right with repetition and writing it down. No relying on memory alone here. c) they clear the table swiftly, but with no harassment to kick you out. They attend to the bill quickly, should you need to be on your way (which allows them to offer the table to the next lucky guests of course) All sensible restaurant practice, you might say. I'd say "But if that's the case why can't other restaurants be equally as good?" As I said, if you own a restaurant and want to train your staff you could do worse than sending them here for a simple, but scrumptious and highly affordable breakfast. Go on then, what on earth are you waiting for?
